Pearl Properties

There are many different pearl qualities that determine its quality and value. Before you select a pearl we advise that you visit our showroom and have a look at our wide range of pearl jewellery.

Important Pearl Characteristics

Colour
Pearls vary greatly in colour. Light coloured pearls come in tones of white, silver, champagne and pink while darker pearls come in peacock green and grey.

Lustre
The best indication of a pearls quality is the lustre. This is the inner glow of the pearl caused by rays of light passing through the layers of nacre and reflecting from the inside of the pearl. A pearl with a high lustre will have a reflective quality similar to a mirror while a pearl with poor lustre will have a dull surface with no reflective quality.

Shape
Pearls can be round, baroque, drop or oval. The rounder the pearl, the more expensive it will be however personal taste is a major factor when it comes to choosing the perfect pearl for you.

Size
A pearls size is determined by its diameter and is represented in millimetres. The size of a pearl has a significant effect on the price it will fetch because larger pearls are very rare.

Caring for your pearls
We recommend that pearls be wiped with a clean, damp cloth every week. Please avoid perfume, deodorant and other sprays close to your pearls. We also recommend that you restring your pearls regularly. We can arrange this service for you.

All our pearls come with Kitalé Pearls' unique Quality Guarantee. For further inquiries or to place an order, please contact us.
